As one of the largest educational agencies in the nation, LACOE collaborates with various stakeholders, including schools, child welfare agencies, and community organizations, to enhance the educational outcomes of foster youth. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by these children, LACOE implements programs aimed at providing stability, resources, and advocacy to help foster students succeed academically and socially. Initiatives include specialized training for educators, access to counseling services, and the development of personalized learning plans that cater to the individual needs of foster children. By promoting educational equity and inclusion, LACOE strives to empower foster youth, ensuring they have the tools necessary to achieve their full potential in school and beyond.

At Promise

We support McKinney-Vento, foster youth, disabled & low income high school students by guiding them through comprehensive college applications aimed at securing full, or nearly full, four-year scholarships. We assist with applications to 28 California institutions, including 4 UC schools, 4 Cal State universities, and 20 through the Common App. This process requires approximately 100 hours per student!

Once college acceptance decisions are in, we help negotiate offers to meet each student’s unique needs, leading to a collaborative final decision for a four-year commitment. Our mission goes beyond earning a degree; we ensure 4 years of stable housing, daily meals, on-campus employment, and life and career mentoring through At Promise.
